Piles Of Old Mail Found In Dead Mailman's Home
BROOKLINE (CBS4) ―
The death of a mailman in
Brookline has uncovered a gigantic mystery. Investigators found truckloads of undelivered mail in his home - some of it dating back to the 1990's.
54-year-old Alan Gagne was found dead of an apparent heart attack in his apartment on Linden Street Friday evening.
His supervisor had gone to his home to check on him after Gagne didn't return from his rounds.
The supervisor also found mail - piles of it.
Postal Service spokesman Robert Cannon told CBS4 Gagne had apparently been collecting it for years. Cannon said most of it was junk mail, circulars, filler mail and mail from people who had moved away with no forwarding address.
None of it was opened. All of it has been dispersed.
Cannon said one knows why Gagne was collecting it. Had he survived, he would have faced charges because stealing mail is a federal offense.
