Longtime Red Sox Pitcher Charlie Wagner Dies

Wagner First Joined The Red Sox Organization in 1935


BOSTON (CBS4) ― Charlie Wagner, one of the ambassadors of the game of baseball and for the Boston Red Sox, passed away Wednesday night at the age of 93.

Wagner first joined the Red Sox organization in 1935 and played with Boston from 1938 to 1946 compiling a 38-23 record with a 3.91 ERA.

Wagner was also a roommate of Hall of Famer Ted Williams and Wagner has a street named after him at the Red Sox Spring Training complex in Fort Myers, Florida.

He was a longtime coach and instructor with the Red Sox and received a World Series ring in 2004.

Wagner was at a minor league game in Reading, Pennsylvania Wednesday night. As per his custom, he went to his car in the 7th inning. It was there he passed away from natural causes.
