Special Walk And Memorial For Infant Loss
by Dr. Mallika Marshall
SAUGUS (CBS4) ―
Some local moms are organizing a special service for families who have suffered miscarriages and other infant losses.
Sadly, this is a problem that affects so many families. There are 870,000 babies who die each year through miscarriage, stillbirth and other causes.
Two local mothers share a special bond forged from the heartache of losing their newborns.
"I had a son was who premature who lived 30 days in the NICU at Beth Israel," says Maria Morong.
Shari McStay's daughter Julia was stillborn. "I remember thinking when I was in the hospital, that someday I hope would be able to do something to help other parents."
That's why Maria and Shari decided to organize a special walk and memorial service on Saturday, October 15, where families can come together and remember babies who have died because miscarriage, stillbirth or other causes.
Maria says, "We're hoping to have a day where people can come together and reach out to people and remember their babies."
Shari says, "I think it's therapeutic to have a day to honor their babies."
A Walk to Remember will be held at the Breakheart Reservation in Saugus on Saturday, October 15 at 10 a.m. Similar events will also be held around Massachusetts and the country to help raise money for SHARE, a support group for Pregnancy and Infant Loss.
